When I was very very young I remember visiting my great grandmother in her tiny apartment filled with the smell of linseed oil and oil paints; and the rooms filled with the beautiful canvases that she had painted. She was tiny, and wrinkled and her skin was soft and wrinkly as crepe paper. She had the brightest little twinkle in her eyes. She was the first artist I knew; and I wanted to create beautiful things just like her!

My mother is a musician, and the most wonderful cook. Her talent comes from deep inside of her, it is not learned...its...a gift. I was fortunate enough to be born to a family of very gifted artists, and though they did not teach me first hand, they instilled in me from an early age, the importance of creating beauty in a not so beautiful world.

My place in this family of artists and musicians was the more modern role of photographer. With a degree focusing on Photography and several awards from Murray State University, I returned to Lubbock, Texas in 1996. Like Georgia O'Keeffe I began my career as an artist teaching. One must make money to survive to make art! After several years of teaching, I was able to pursue photography full time.

In October of 2003, I opened my studio in Historic Downtown Lubbock Texas. I chose the location because there is something about modern commercialism that seems to cheapen quality work. Quality portraits don't happen in a strip mall next to McDonalds. The area reminded me of a time when people took pride in their work. Our photography studio is like no other studio or experience in Lubbock, it is calm and cool and relaxing. Being a photographer in this area is, hands down, the best job that I have ever had!
